Introduction
In The Legend of the Pygmalion and the Eridan universe intervene a lot of characters, each one of them with their own backgrounds and ambitions and their personal contribution to the story. In this section you have a list that will help you to know them better or refresh who is who, in case you do not identify the character who is intervening in the chapter you are currently reading.
Warning! This section does not contain spoilers per se, but the list will be uploaded as we advance in publishing the chapters and new characters appear. When this happens, it will be specified on which chapter the new character appears for the first time next to their name, to avoid spoil details to newcomers.
That being said, there you have the actors of the Eridan universe!
Royal squad
Evelyn “Evie” Anderson
Maybe that was what taught us is better be the weird one, actually. After all, it makes you realize that you are unique.
Our main narrator and protagonist of the story, Evelyn is the oldest daughter of Angela and Charlie Anderson, the sister of Elena and Alex, and the Chosen One of the Seer Kylah’s prophecy. According to said augury, Evie is the incarnation of the Light, one of the two elemental halves of magic, and is destined to save Eridan, the magical world her grandparents come from, becoming its Queen in the process. Impulsive and stubborn, but fierce, loyal, with the soul of an artist and a strong sense of good and bad, the feisty Evie will be a huge challenge to the controlling Council of the Five, the main sphere of power in Eridan since the flight of her grandmother, the in another time Princess, Amelia Harried.
Andy Carlton
Honestly, between magic and steel, I prefer the steel.
Only son to James and Rachel Carlton, Andy is a specialist in fencing and swordsmanship and a royal protector of Eridan, which implies that, unfortunately, he and Evelyn are stuck in learning how to put up with each other…which doesn’t look easy pesky at all. As a telepath, Andy is not used at all to deal with something he can’t control or understand, and Evelyn Anderson, with a personality more proper of a force of nature than otherwise, is as untameable as a storm. Undaunted, stoic and with some humor between acid and sarcastic, Andy must learn to teach to understand himself a bit better…and comprehend the importance of being part of a good team.
Catherine “Cathy” Bronson
The Council has controlled every single aspect of my life since they brought me here. I won’t let them handle this one, too. I refuse to let them decide for me.
Ripped away from her parents’ side when she was six at the orders of the Council of the Five, Cathy is the breakeven between the serious Andy and the joyful Derek in the peculiar elite squad the three of them form. This implies, in a lot of occasions, being the grown-up between the two boys, but Cathy is so used to it that’s almost a second instinct at this stage of the game. Capable, resolute and well-aimed as one of her arrows, this young woman is one of the best archers Eridan has seen in years, which implies something very important: her aim, hearing and balance are perfect and, therefore, she never fails. With the so-expected arrival of Evelyn to Eridan, Cathy has found in the future queen not just a hope, but also a lifelong confident and friend, and will follow her anywhere, nor only in the name of duty, but also of trust and belief she can create a better world.
Derek O’Donnell
I promise, when I’m done training you, you’ll be…the absolute opposite to clumsy.
The only and highly expected son of Molly and Adrian O’Donnell, head of the kitchens and tailor of the Castle of the Light respectively, Derek is the expert in self-defense and hand to hand combat in the royal squad. If Andy is the old, cynical soul of the team and Cathy is the still hope, Derek is the explosive optimism, always ready to lend a hand or try to lighten up a too-serious atmosphere. Anyone would say that, at his twenty, with a height that almost reaches the two meters, muscles that would scare the mightiest and a whole life of training at the edge of a sword, there wouldn’t be a thing capable of scaring Derek off…that is, except for his fierce fear to blood, which releases him from his duties as a healer. Not like he cares, actually: Derek is quite happy away from the infirmary, alongside the punching bag, where he can practice his punches at peace.
Addison “Addie” Wright
Eridan was created from magic. With magic is sustained and with magic it works. Without it, we are nothing.
Supervisor of the royal squad, High Priestess of Eridan and Andy Carlton’s godmother, Addison is a portentous healer that was separated from her family when she was very little, as soon as the Council of the Five had notice of her ability. Despite that, she managed to keep in touch with her younger brother, Aiden, and, eventually, to help him with protecting a little secret. Maternal, very intelligent and all an eminence in the magical field, Addison was the one in charge to seal Evelyn Anderson’s powers when she was merely a baby; now, sixteen years later, she is tasked with teaching our protagonist everything she needs to know about Eridan and magic. Or, at least, the little she can say without fearing the Council interfering in her classes…
In Earth: Evelyn’s friends
Daniel “Dani” Montgomery
Who else could have been? Unless that, for some crazy chance, we have another witch classmate and didn’t know it.
Born and raised in the little town of Pennsylvania where half of our story takes place, Dani is Evie’s best friend since kindergarten, actually, more a brother than a friend. During thirteen years, they have gotten away with too many mischiefs and provoked too many earthquakes not to consider each other family; that’s why Dani is the only one of Evelyn’s friends that knows about the Harried’s strange witchery history…even if he himself has never been a fanatic of magic or supernatural stuff. That, however, is not going to stop him from supporting his best friend in the mission that has jumped on her in every way he can. After all, being a moral supporter is way easier than inviting Sophie Stevens to the school’s ball…
Nicholas “Nick” Williams
Hey, I’m not dramatic! I’m an artist of the word!
The only son of the wealthy Williams, Nick arrived from Seattle to the village in his childhood, when his grandmother got sick and his parents saw themselves forced to relocate in order to take care of her. Cheerful, chatty and a total trickster, even if it’s only thanks to the laughs his lack of attention may provoke, Nick eventually became one of Evelyn’s closest and dearest friends, and the one tasked with pulling out a laugh from everyone. Probably, that vibes and attitude of a prankster little devil that doesn’t take anything seriously come from having been born in Halloween; nevertheless, despite his “studying for an exam is underrated as long as there’s a break in between to memorize the basics and reach the pass” philosophy, and his restlessness need to know everything in chapter and verse, Nick is a loyal friend, with a heart of gold, more divine-enlightenment moments than he wants to admit…and yeah, a bit dramatic.
Christian “Chris” Peterson
Don’t know about you, but Mr. Temple’s assignment has been judging me silently from my desk for days.
Intelligent, systematic and an authentic “man of science”, Chris is a lonely, withdrawn boy, that doesn’t trust easily in people, which makes his friendship specially valuable. Born in the great New York, Chris arrived at the village when he was ten, after his parents accepted a good job there; after a couple of years, Evie, Dani and company earned his trust…and then they became inseparable. A fundamental pillar system (specially to avoid Evelyn throwing by the window her Math book or making sure Nick presents his Literature assignments in time and Dani learns how to equalize chemistry equations), Chris is always willing to lend a hand to his friends, and has saved more exams thanks to his afternoon intensive classes in the library than they can count with all their fingers.
Rebeca Nicholson (first appearance in chapter 10)
Live.
Evelyn and Dani’s childhood best friend and a loved one of the gang they, Nick and Chris form, Rebeca Nicholson is the shadow of the tragedy that looms over the friends. She died of leukemia a year prior to the events of the book, at age fifteen, though she’s still very present in everything their friends do…and the way they live their lives. Rebeca was sweet, cheerful and perky, with a fondness for music and a special ability for everything related to it.
Her death caused a huge wound in Evelyn’s life and mental stability, a scar that yet lingers in her skin and memory.
In Earth: Anderson-Harried family
Juliet “Julie” Harried
They knew everything since the first moment. The only fools here were Alex, you and me. And, well, Will, too.
Firstborn to Andrew and Lucy Harried and Will’s older sister, Julie is Evelyn’s cousin, having been her right hand and partner in crime since the beginning of times. Direct, self-confident and stubborn as only a Harried can be (according to Amelia, her grandmother), Julie is not happy at all with the fact their whole family has hidden for years that Evie was the heir to a throne destined to save the magical world their grandparents come from. After all, they both have been asking questions about their magical roots since they can remember only to be ignored in the worst possible way. Nevertheless, Julie is more than willing to bite the bullet, ignore such an offense to her persona and help or offer advice to Evie in everything she needs in this journey…specially if it has to do with a certain greyish-blue-eyed protector with whom, to Julie’s judgement, Evie has something more than a “significant staring contest”.
Amelia Harried
But a choice always comes with a waiver, my dear, and it always has consequences. I gave up everything I knew for love and freedom, something that a lot of people thought it was brave, selfish or stupid, or even all at once. And even now, old and dusty, I would do it again.
Mother to Angela, Andrew, Diana and Prue, alongside wife to Edward, Amelia is Evelyn’s maternal grandmother, and, when she was seventeen, she almost became the Queen of Eridan. That was before eloping to Earth with the man she loved and abandoning not only her title, but everything that was known to her, including her powers. Raised up under the chains of a tyrannical mother, heavily misunderstood and suffocated in the atmosphere of a court that never allowed her to be herself, Amelia turned her back on her people without second-thoughts in order to be the person she wished to be. For years, she achieved that goal…until her daughter, Angela, became pregnant and Kylah’s prophecy shook the foundations of a life Amelia and Edward had managed to create, placing a too heavy burden in the shoulders of their first grandchild, something the Harried matriarch is not quite able to forgive herself for.
Edward Harried
We’ve been hiding the truth from her all her life, until we’ve been able to. But it’s time to explain things to Evelyn.
Father to Angela, Andrew, Diana and Prue, and Amelia’s husband, Edward is Evelyn’s maternal grandfather. In his youth, he was a royal protector to the, by then, Crown Princess Amelia of Eridan, who he trained and with whom, over the years, developed a bond as powerful as forbidden. Their secret relationship guided them to elope to Earth, turning their backs on absolutely everything they had in their world of origin. Eventually, the couple established themselves in a little village on the outskirts of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where they raised their children and enjoyed a quiet, normal life, until the pregnancy of their daughter, Angela, pushed them again towards the war they had left behind.
Charlie and Angela Anderson
Parents to Evelyn, Elena and Alex Anderson. Angela is the firstborn of Edward and Amelia, an experienced surgeon that managed to find balance between her passion for medicine and her love for her family. Charlie is an illustrator who had no trouble in working from home so his wife didn’t have to give up her career. For sixteen years, they both have lived a quiet and pacific life with their family, despite how much of a heavy burden some secrets can be. Now that those secrets have come into light and their daughter Evie has a complex destiny in front of her, one that she hardly can run away from, the couple will see themselves forced to fight against the fear of seeing her baby in the middle of a war that, actually, is not theirs…one that has already taken too much from them.
Alexandra “Alex” Anderson
Of only eight years old at the beginning of the story, Alex is Evelyn’s little sister, a small hyperactive tornado with a passion for painting, drawing, and the tiny football team she has formed with her classmates.
Lucy and Andrew Harried
Aunt and uncle to Evelyn and parents to Juliet and William Harried. Andrew is the second child of Amelia and Edward, a cheerful soul from whom Julie has inherited the majority of her sense of humor. Lucy is a manager in an important enterprise, with such a rational mind that it almost feels impossible that she believed the story about the origins of her in-laws. Well, of course, seeing your sister in-law auto-healing herself would persuade anyone that the situation was, in fact, one of “weirdness going on here”…
William “Will” Harried
Second child to Lucy and Andrew and Juliet’s baby brother, Will is, by now, the youngest of the Harried cousins, just having turned four years old. His greater worry? Probably, if his parents will let him eat chocolate cookies for breakfast.
Diana “Di” Harried
The third of Edward and Amelia Harried’s children, Diana is a lawyer in Philadelphia and the official “noisy aunt” of the family, the one everybody loves but can be a bit too overwhelming sometimes. At the beginning of the story, she is engaged to Eric Masterson, a newyorker compositor who she has been dating for so long that he is already a part of the family, even though Diana still refuses to tell him about the magical secret hidden in the Harried’s DNA.
Prudence “Prue” Harried
Youngest child to Amelia and Edward Harried, Prue (never Prudence) is an authentic free spirit that has traveled around every single corner of the world she has been able to afford. Adventurer by nature, she was the only of the Harried’s kids that dared to study outside the country, after accepting an exchange scholarship in Cambridge. At the time, she is a veterinary in London, even though she still is very much aware of everything her family, at the other side of the Pond, has to tell.
In Eridan: Castle of the Light
The Council of the Five
A queen does not bow to her counselors. Nevertheless, it does not hurt to do it. Is a sign of respect, something that never hurts.
Currently formed by Lady Alana, Lord Jacob, Lady Briana, Lord Michael and Lord Matthew, all of them feared by the majority of Eridan’s population, the Council of the Five was created by the young daughter of the First Queen when she saw herself suffocated by the pressure of reigning when she was just fourteen. Main power and authority of Eridan, only under the Queen’s, the Council is the puppet-master that pulls the strings not only inside the Castle of the Light, but over the whole world. Ambitious, selfish and power-hungry, their members have been seizing it since its creation and have kept it thanks to passing titles from parents to children or, at most, from uncles/aunts to nephews/nieces. Thanks to Amelia’s, Evelyn’s grandmother, elopement, the Council took over the control of the whole world, and is not willing to lose it now, not to the terrific Lord of Darkness and their personal crusade or to the not-malleable-at-all Queen of the Prophecy…
The Seer Kylah
It is not wise to meddle with Destiny, my Lord, and I, personally, am not allowed to. I only see and comply.
Immortal, omnipotent (literally!) and with a funny sense of humor, Kylah is the enigmatic Seer that has inhabited the basements of the Castle of the Light since the times of the First Queen, Eleanor. As powerful as complicated, Kylah is responsible for the creation of the prophecy that marks Evelyn as the Chosen One. Her past, and even her present, are surrounded by mystery: all that it’s known by certain about her is that she’s even older than the own Eridan, that she helped to create it and that she was a confident and a dear friend to Queen Eleanor. The Seer of the Light rarely ever leaves her chambers, always too engaged in her own mind, in millions of images about the past, the present and the options that hid in the future’s mist. Nevertheless, Kylah is well aware of her duty: making sure destiny follows it course to guarantee a “greater good” is fulfilled.
Eleanor of Eridan
A figure surrounded by mystery, Eleanor is the famous First Queen of Eridan, Evelyn’s ancestor and, according to eridanian History, the best monarch the world has known. In fact, a great part of what is known by Eleanor is a legend enveloped in mysticism: the facts tells us that her father created Eridan with some spells as powerful as dangerous, that she assumed leadership when those drained his life and that Kylah, the Seer, was her best friend and confident. Stories tell they were so close that the Seer never recovered form the Queen’s death. Neither did her daughter, who was only fourteen when Eleanor died, forcing her to ascend to the throne and create the Council of the Five to face the pressure. Beyond that, and, for now, we can only speculate…
In Eridan: The Village
Aiden, Charlotte and Evangeline Wright (first appearance in chapter 6)
Younger brother, sister-in-law and niece respectively of Addison. They live in a small house on the outskirts of town to protect themselves (and their secret) form prying eyes.
In Eridan: Lair of Darkness
Elena Anderson (first appearance in Chapter 8)
Isn’t it evident? I’m here to kill you, Evelyn.
If there’s someone able to plague a person’s consciousness with nightmares with just one look, that’s Elena Anderson. Lethal, cold, mysterious and undoubtedly terrifying, Elena is the until now long-lost (even presumed dead) twin sister of Evelyn, who’s been raised to be a mortal weapon under the tutelage of the enigmatic and dangerous Lord of Darkness. She was kidnapped by the Darkness mere hours after her birth, though the story she knows is a bit different…and, because of that, Elena won’t rest until she’s destroyed the person she believes is responsible of all her misfortunes: her sister, Evelyn.
