Hello everyone! Today is March 20, which means it’s time to publish the famous chapter 12! As I told you before, this is the ending of Part one, “Family heritage”, which implies this chapter’s going to be a vertiginous one that will solve a few conflicts settled during this first part.
This, the site, the story, share it with you, share its characters and its world, it’s being quite the journey. I’m very excited for having coming this way and I feel very grateful for you to be reading this, both if you’ve been here from the very first moment or you have recently arrived. Thank you so much!
Returning to our story, chapter 11 ended with shocking news for the squad: the Council had announced an order to capture Elena and forced Evelyn, Andy, Cathy, Derek and Addie to go after her in an undercover mission (and quite a bit suicidal) to the Darkness’ Lair. Chapter 12 takes us to the spot we’ve been left on and will lead us towards that incursion…and its consequences. Without further delay, here it’s the last chapter of part one! Enjoy!
With this absolutely heart-stopping end we finish the most powerful chapter of the first round! I hope you’ve enjoyed reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it.
For a lot of reasons this is one of my favorites chapters not just from part one, but the whole book. This is an end of arc chapter, of “season”, even, if you want to call it that way. From the first chapter to this one we have a whole arc of evolution and change in the characters, of growing and empowerment, and there’s a lot of things that fascinate me of this chapter, narratively speaking: the rhythm, the tone, the characters, the relationships between them; Evie’s friendship with the gang, the squad teaming up, the fighting scenes (those ones are super fun of writing and imagining, I confess) Evie against the Council…and, of course, the ending scene. That one that transforms Evie and Andy in something more and consolidates the roots of something that has grown during the whole first part and that is going to develop in the rest of the novel. So, you see, the Pygmalion is Evie’s story, of how she assumes her role as Chosen One and how she makes it her own, on her terms, of how she goes from kid to adult out of obligations and how she takes a powerful stance despite circumstances, proving her worth. But it’s also the story of her relationship with Andy. That was the seed of the Pygmalion, and that was the story I wanted to write: the story of these two too-good-for-their-own-well idiots.
Of course, not everything is resolved here: there are a lot of things hanging in the air and that will be playing an important role on part two of the novel, having lasting effects and developing in…let’s say interesting ways. And, of course, you will read it here, in The World of Eridan.
So, those are the good news; now it’s the turn of the not-so-good news. See, the Pygmalion and the website are a project I adore, but unfortunately I have to put it on hiatus for a while. Right now I’m finishing my Master’s degree and, unfortunately, the term’s assignments and my dissertation are demanding my whole attention and energies. This implies I haven’t been able to translate any more chapters, neither revise or “polish” them. So, for now and until a few months, the uploading and publishing of chapters will be on hiatus. Don’t worry! No panic! This doesn’t mean I’m gonna neglect all this. There still will be threads and curiosities (in fact, I hope to be able to fill in that section), either here or on social media (Instagram, Facebook and Twitter). Don’t worry; Evie, Andy, Cathy, Derek, Addie and the whole gang will return in no time, ready to earn more trouble than ever.
In the meantime, be safe, stay tuned for news and…thanks for reading!
